Barcelona announces that Cruyff will leave the club at the end of the season
Barcelona, the Spanish first division club, said today, Tuesday, that Jordi Cruyff, the sports director, will leave his post at the end of the season, after spending two years with the team.
The 49-year-old Dutchman Cruyff, son of Barcelona legend Johan Creef, joined the Catalan club in September 2021 after leaving the Chinese team Shenzhen.
Cruyff’s departure comes after Matteo Alemani, director of football, left the club earlier this month.
“Jordi Cruyff, the club’s sporting director, will not renew his contract at the end of the current season, due to his desire for a new professional experience,” Barcelona said in a statement.
He added, “He announced his decision this morning, Tuesday, to President Joan Laporta, explaining that after two years in this position he would like to leave to take on new challenges.”
He continued: “FC Barcelona would like to thank Jordi Cruyff for his important contributions as a member of the Sports Committee and wish him all the best in his future professional career.”
Barcelona, who won the league title for the 27th time and the first in four years at the beginning of this week, added that Cruyff will continue to assist the club in its transition towards a new executive structure and assist it in the upcoming transfer market.
