Liverpool deepens Leicester’s wounds with three goals

Curtis Jones scored two goals and Trent Alexander-Arnold scored superbly as Liverpool beat Leicester City 3-0 in the English Premier League today, Monday, and boost their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League next season and deepen Leicester’s fears of relegation.

Liverpool ranks fifth with 65 points from 36 games, one point behind fourth Manchester United, who played 35 games.

Leicester ranks 19th with 30 points from 36 matches, two points behind 17th-placed Everton, with two remaining matches.

After a slow start, Jones broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute with a fine finish from Mo Salah’s pass.

The 22-year-old midfielder put the ball into the net again after three minutes, and this time the goal was also from Salah’s industry.

The home fans made a great effort to help Leicester get back in the game, but Alexander-Arnold scored a wonderful goal after Salah set him up with a free kick in the 71st minute.

Liverpool won their seventh consecutive league victory, while Leicester got only two points from their last four matches.

With a trip to Newcastle United and a home game against West Ham United remaining, time is running out for the 2016 champions to retain their place in the Premier League.
