Inzaghi praising Lukaku: he reached the top of his level

Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi said that striker Romelu Lukaku had reached the last month of the season “in the best possible way”, before an expected confrontation against Milan in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final.

Lukaku, who joined Inter from Chelsea on loan, suffered many injuries this season and his form also declined, but he scored three goals in the last three matches.

In response to a question about the return of the Belgian player to his previous level during his first period with Inter, when he scored 64 goals in two seasons and won the Italian League title, Inzaghi told reporters, “You know him. You know what he can do.”

He added, “This is what we have been waiting for during the year. Unfortunately, something unexpected happened to him (and Marcelo) Brozovic, affecting two who had been indispensable for many months.”

He continued, “I can remember important matches we played without them, but what we are watching is seeing a version of Lukaku that appeared last month in the best possible way.”

Inter beat Milan 2-0 in the first leg and before playing the second leg in the San Siro tomorrow, Tuesday, as coach Inzaghi’s team will look forward to reaching the final for the first time since winning the continental title in 2010.
