Union Berlin survives the Freiburg uprising

Union Berlin survived the Freiburg uprising in the second half to win 4-2 at home in a confrontation between two contenders to reach the Champions League and enhance its hopes of finishing the German Football League in the golden square for the first time today, Saturday.

Union Berlin presented its best first half in the league this season, scoring three goals, including two from Sheraldo Becker in the 36th and 38th minutes, after Kevin Behrens opened the scoring in the fifth minute.

Freiburg, who was denied access to the Champions League after losing 4-1 to Union in the penultimate round of last season, rose up after the break.

Manuel Golde pulled one back before Vincenzo Griffo made it 3-2 from a penalty kick in the 70th minute to light the match as Freiburg searched for an equalizer, but substitute Issa Al-Aidouni sealed Union’s victory with a counterattack in the 80th minute.

Onion ranks third with 59 points, three points ahead of fifth place Freiburg, while Leipzig comes fourth with 57 points before facing Werder Bremen tomorrow, Sunday.
