Prostate removal for an “octogenarian” after it had enlarged 12 times
A medical team from the Department of Urology at King Abdulaziz Hospital succeeded in performing a rare surgery to remove the senile prostate gland for an 84-year-old patient, after it had grown to 12 times its normal size.
And during the Makkah Al-Mukarramah Health Gathering, the patient was suffering from symptoms of obstruction and urinary retention, and after performing the necessary medical examinations and x-rays, it was found that there was a very large enlargement in the size of the prostate gland, which reached 340 ml out of 18 to 25 ml for the normal size of the gland.
He pointed out that the case necessitated the necessity of surgical intervention, despite its difficulty and seriousness, to remove the prostate and preserve the functions of the kidneys from failure and urinary incontinence, pointing out that the patient fully recovered and left the hospital after taking the necessary treatments.
