Germany celebrated their 1,000th cap with a thrilling 3-3 penalty kick draw against Ukraine in a charity match in Bremen on Monday night.
Germany took the lead in the sixth minute with a try deflected by Niklas Volkrug, who scored his seventh goal in seven matches.
And Ukraine got a stray ball in the middle of the field to launch a counterattack, and Viktor Tsihankov equalized in the 19th minute.
Four minutes later, Mikhailo Modric’s shot bounced off Antonio Rudiger to score an own goal and give the visitors a 2-1 lead.
Coach Hans Flick’s team suffered another blow at the beginning of the second half after a defensive error allowed Tsihankov to score the second personal goal, giving Ukraine a 3-1 lead.
