Manchester United coach Pep Guardiola succeeded in equalizing the achievement of former veteran coach Alex Ferguson, after he led Manchester City to win a hat-trick of titles this season and crowned the Champions League for the first time on Saturday night.

City won the continental title at the expense of Inter Milan, to complete the treble after also winning the English Premier League and the FA Cup this season.

Guardiola became the second coach to win this treble with an English team, after Ferguson did it with Manchester United in the 1998-1999 season.

This is the second time in Guardiola’s career that he succeeds in winning three titles in one season, as he achieved the achievement with Barcelona and won the Spanish League, the King’s Cup and the Champions League in his first season 2008-2009.

Guardiola became the fourth coach to win the European Cup at least three times after Carlo Ancelotti (four titles, including two with Milan and two with Real Madrid), Bob Paisley (Liverpool) and Zinedine Zidane (Real Madrid).
