The Minister of Sports, Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, confirmed that the club privatization project aims to bring the Saudi Professional League to the top 10 competitions in the world.

Al-Faisal said in a press conference organized by the Ministry of Sports, which revealed the details of the project to privatize sports clubs: “The revenues of Saudi clubs increased from 88 million riyals in 2019 to 728 thousand riyals in the 2023 season.

The Minister of Sports indicated that the number of athletes doubled from 40,000 in 2019 to 81,000 in 2023.

He explained that the number of fans attending matches increased from 1.1 million in 2019 to 2.2 in 2023.

The project at the current stage includes two main tracks; The first is to approve the investment of major companies and development agencies in sports clubs, in exchange for transferring ownership of the clubs to them, and the second is to offer a number of sports clubs for privatization, starting from the last quarter of this year.

The project aims to create quality opportunities and an attractive environment for investment in the sports sector to achieve a sustainable sports economy, raise the level of professionalism and administrative and financial governance in sports clubs, raise the level of clubs and develop their infrastructure to provide the best services to sports fans, which will reflect positively on improving the audience experience.
