The champion Barcelona loses from Celta.. and Valladolid relegates

Valladolid were relegated from La Liga on the last day of the season today, Sunday, while champions Barcelona ended their campaign with a 2-1 defeat by struggling Celta Vigo.

Six teams entered the last round amid fears of relegation to the second degree, five of which breathed a sigh of relief after Valladolid, owned by Brazilian star Ronaldo, tied at home with Getafe without goals, to finish the competition in 18th place after the longest period in its history in the top flight.

In Balaidos, Celta, who was in danger of relegation, took the lead in the 42nd minute, when Gabry Biga quickly beat defenders Marcos Alonso and Andreas Christensen to shoot into the net.

Celta dominated the match and kept pressing Barcelona’s defense until Pega managed to score again from a cross that accidentally hit the goal in the 65th minute.

Barcelona made several changes in the second half, one of which resulted in Ansu Fati’s goal in the 79th minute, but Celta held out to achieve a victory that moved him to 13th place.

Valencia and Cadiz escaped relegation with a 1-1 draw, and Almeria twice came from behind against Espanyol, already relegated to the second division earlier, before Adri Imbarba scored from a penalty kick to equalize 3-3 and rose above Valladolid by one point.
