The French League .. Auxerre’s relegation … and the farewell night of Messi and Ramos

In the last round of the French League, the short story of the Auxerre team ended in the French first division, after losing 3-1 to Lens, to confirm its relegation on the last day of the season.

While Stade Rennes clinched the European League qualification card, while Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos had a sad end with Paris Saint-Germain today, Saturday.

The loss of Auxerre, which coincided with Nantes’ 1-0 victory over its guest Angers, means a return to the second division after one season under the lights, to accompany Troyes, Ajaccio and Angers, as the number of teams shrinks from 20 to 18 in the 2023-2024 season.

Champion Saint-Germain and runner-up Lance secured their place in the group stage of the Champions League next season before playing the last round, while Olympique de Marseille realized that it would play the third preliminary round.

Rennes won 2-1 over Brest to secure the continental competitions for the sixth season in a row, while Lille, who drew 1-1 with Troyes, is satisfied with participating in the European Conference League.

Monaco could have finished higher than Lille if they had won, but lost 2-1 to Toulouse, missing out on European participation.

The atmosphere was emotional in Paris when Saint-Germain and Clermont players honored the goalkeeper of the capital, Sergio Rico, who remains in intensive care after an accident while riding a horse in Spain last week.

Saint-Germain confirmed before the start whistle that he would not renew Messi’s contract after two seasons at the club.

Ramos opened the scoring in his final game with PSG with a header before Kylian Mbappe converted the score to 2-0 from the penalty spot, scoring his 29th goal of the season to claim the Golden Boot for the league’s top scorer.

But Clermont rose up to score two goals in a row through Jean Gastier and Mehdi Zaffan before the end of the first half, then Grego Ke snatched the victory after the hour mark.
