Leipzig retains the German Cup after defeating Eintracht Frankfurt
Leipzig retained the German Football Cup title after two unanswered goals against Eintracht Frankfurt in the capital, Berlin, in the match that brought them together on Saturday evening.
Christopher Nkunku hit Eintracht Frankfurt after the break and set up the second goal for his colleague Dominic Suboslay in the 71st and 85th minutes of the match.
The first half was fun and equal, and Timo Werner missed an early chance for Leipzig, while Eintracht grabbed the ball.
Nkunku gave Leipzig the lead with a shot that hit Ivan Ndika into the goal in the 71st minute.
The balance tilted in favor of Leipzig and Nkunku passed the ball to the unmarked Suboslay to score the second goal five minutes before the end.
Thus, Bayer Leverkusen, sixth in the league, secured qualification for the European League, taking advantage of Leipzig’s participation in the Champions League by finishing third.
