UEFA Champions League: Barcelona’s women win the title after “Remontada” against Wolfsburg

The Barcelona women’s team achieved an amazing “Remontada” against Wolfsburg, Germany, after coming from behind with two goals to win 3-2 to win the Champions League title on Saturday, at the Philips Stadium in Eindhoven.

In front of 33,000 spectators, Barcelona fell behind with the goals of Polish Eva Bayor and Alexandra Popp in the third and 37th minutes, respectively, before equalizing with the goals of Patricia “Patri” Guijarro within 109 seconds (48 and 70), to return and snatch the victory through the Swedish Fridolina Rolfo (70).

It is the second victory for Barcelona women in the last three years after 2021, when they won the title for the first time at the expense of English club Chelsea, while Lyon, France, holds the record for the number of victories with 8 titles.

On the other hand, Wolfsburg lost in its fourth final after 2016, 2018 and 2020 since winning the title for the last time in 2014.

Barcelona star Alexia Potillas, who won the Golden Ball for the best player in the world twice in 2021 and 2022, sat on the bench before coach Jonathan Giraldis pushed her in the 90th minute, after she missed most of the season due to a knee injury.

“I’m very emotional, I didn’t think this would happen, when we were two goals behind at the start, I felt we could do it, but it was very difficult,” Rolfo told the “Dazone” streaming platform after the end of the match.

“We showed a lot of mentality today, I’m very proud of the team,” she added.
