Al-Buainain, the new president of the Qatar Football Association

The Qatar Football Association announced today, Thursday, that the general assembly elected Jassim bin Rashid Al-Buainain as president of the federation by acclamation until 2027.

Al Buainain, Secretary General of the Qatar Olympic Committee, was the only candidate to succeed Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani, who became honorary president of the federation.
Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa has chaired the Qatari Federation since 2005.

Al-Buainain, the former national team striker and the best Qatari player in the 2001-2002 season, was Vice-President of the Football Association and a member of the Executive Committee of the Qatar Stars League.

Qatar is preparing to defend its title when it hosts the Asian Cup in January 2024 and recover from a disappointing appearance in the 2022 World Cup on home soil.

Qatar suffered three consecutive defeats in the World Cup group stage, and Spanish coach Felix Sanchez left after his contract expired after the tournament, and the leadership was assigned to veteran Portuguese Carlos Queiroz.
