A new study links hair condition to heart attacks
A recent study conducted by researchers from the Dutch Erasmus University Medical Center found that increased levels of the stress hormones cortisol and cortisone in hair follicles double the chances of having a stroke or heart attack.
And these results came, according to the National Health Service in the Netherlands, after measuring the long-term levels of cortisol in scalp hair and its inactive form, and the chances of developing these fatal diseases increase with age.
During the study period, which involved more than 167,000 people from North Holland, the researchers analyzed cortisol and cortisone levels in more than 6,000 hair samples from adult men and women, where each person was followed for a period of 5 to 7 years.
