The Salvadoran Football Association announced the cancellation of the league championship, after the death of 12 fans a few days ago, after the cancellation of a match between FC Alianza and CD Fez.

The Salvadoran Football Association stated, in its official statement, that it had decided to end the 2022-2023 season of the league and there would be no champion, adding that this decision was taken in response to the seriousness of the events and in order to ensure safety conditions in sports stadiums.

A few days ago, the El Salvadoran government announced that at least 12 people were killed and an unspecified number injured in a stampede at a soccer field.

The Allianz match against Club Deportivo FAS in the second leg of the quarter-finals of the domestic league, which was held at the Cuscatlan stadium in the capital, San Salvador, was stopped on Saturday evening, after a stampede occurred in a sector of the stadium.

Cuscatlán is one of the largest stadiums in Central America, with a capacity of more than 44,000 spectators.
