Infantino supports Vinicius after the racist chanting crisis
FIFA President Gianni Infantino expressed his support for Real Madrid’s Brazilian striker Vinicius Junior after he described the La Liga championship as “racist” after receiving repeated racist abuse from fans while playing in Valencia on Sunday.
Vinicius faced the fans who attacked him, and the match stopped for ten minutes, then he clashed with Valencia players and was sent off in the second half. Real lost 1-0 at Mestalla.
The Brazilian striker showed his anger on Twitter, writing, “Racism is usual in La Liga,” and described Spain as a “racist country.”
“All support goes to Vinicius. There is no place for racism in football or society, and FIFA supports all players who find themselves in such a situation,” Infantino said in a statement.
He added, “The events that took place during the Valencia match with Real Madrid show that this should be the situation. That is why there is a three-step procedure in FIFA competitions and this is recommended at all levels of football.”
And he continued, “First, the match is stopped and the incident is announced. Secondly, the players leave the stadium, and the announcer says that if the cheers continue, the match will be canceled. Play will resume, and then the third step, if the cheers continue, the match will stop and the three points will go to the opponent.”
Vinicius received tremendous support after this position, including Brazilian President Luis Inacio Lula da Silva and Real coach Carlo Ancelotti.
The Spanish League has received complaints in the past that Vinicius was subjected to racist insults or insults, and a court in Mallorca is considering a complaint after fans in Mallorca were filmed abusing the Brazil striker.
Spanish police are also investigating a hate crime against the Brazilian player after a doll was found hanged on a bridge outside Real Madrid’s training ground bearing his No. 20 shirt last January.
Today, Real Madrid announced that it had filed a complaint with the Spanish prosecution, claiming that Vinicius had been subjected to a hate crime while playing in Valencia on Sunday.
