Real retreat to third place after defeat from Valencia
Diego Lopez scored a first-half goal to lead Valencia to a 1-0 win over Real Madrid, moving away from the relegation zone in a match marred by racist chants and Vinicius Junior being sent off in the Spanish Premier League today, Sunday.
Valencia are 13th with 40 points, five points above the relegation zone, with three rounds left.
Real Madrid remained in third place with 71 points, 14 points behind Barcelona, who won the title last week.
The match was of no importance to Real Madrid after losing 4-0 to Manchester City in the second leg of the Champions League final last Wednesday, to bid farewell to the tournament.
Lopez opened the scoring for Valencia from close range in the 33rd minute.
Real Madrid completed the final minutes with ten players after Vinicius Jr. was sent off due to a quarrel with Valencia players.
The Brazilian winger was subjected to racist chants from the crowd, and the match was stopped for a few minutes in the second half.
