Lille ends Marseille’s hopes of directly qualifying for the Champions League

Lille came from behind to win 2-1 against Olympique de Marseille in the French First Division, to deal a blow to its guest’s hopes of reaching the group stage of the Champions League directly on Saturday.

Jonathan Kloss gave Marseille the lead after half an hour from the start, but Jonathan David equalized for the landlord from a penalty kick five minutes after the break.

It seemed that Alexis Sanchez restored the advantage to Marseille before the video assistant referee intervened to cancel the goal on the hour mark of play, and Jonathan Bamba completed the Lille uprising in the 72nd minute.

Marseille’s balance stopped at 73 points, in third place, two points behind Lens, who is a guest at Lorient today, Sunday.

The champion and the second-place finisher qualify for the group stage of the Champions League, while the third in the standings will enter the third round of the qualifiers, while Lille has 63 points in fifth place.

Paris Saint-Germain leads the competition with 81 points and goes out to face Auxerre on Sunday evening.
